How This 20KV Industrial Distribution Transformer Can Be Incorporated Into Your Project
Professional recommendations for EPC firms, industrial facility managers, and utility planners for selecting oil-immersed distribution transformers
Project Applications
For Petrochemical Plants, the mechanical integrity provided by robust insulation and proper pressure relief features allows for safe operations in proximity to volatile materials. For Metallurgical Facilities, the transformer has the ability to withstand the high harmonic currents generated by both arc furnaces and rolling mills. Large Infrastructure Projects will benefit from the compact corrugated tank configuration and low maintenance needs of the equipment.
S11 vs. S12 — The Efficiency Choice
Both the S11 series and S12 series provide excellent cost efficiencies for standard industrial usage; however, the S12 series has lower no-load losses resulting in lower energy wastage during periods of low load (this choice is typically the best choice for a facility with variable usage patterns). Both series guarantee the same robustness and safeguards.
Installation and Safety
Install the transformer on a level pad with sufficient oil containment and aeration provisions. The factory-supplied equipment includes pressure relief valve(s) and oil temperature monitoring devices to ensure adequate physical protection. Routine inspection will focus on the level of oil and the condition of the transformer bushings and connections, helping to ensure decades of long-term reliable utilization.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a 20 mVA transformer cost?
The cost of a 20 MVA transformer varies based on voltage, impedance, and accessories. As a manufacturer, we provide competitive factory-direct pricing — contact us with your specifications for a detailed quotation.
What is the difference between transformer and distribution transformer?
A general transformer converts voltage levels. A distribution transformer specifically steps down medium voltage (like 20KV) to utilization voltage (0.4KV) for end-user supply. It is optimized for efficiency at varying lower loads, unlike a power transformer used in transmission.
What is the capacity of a 20 MVA transformer?
A 20 MVA (20,000 kVA) transformer can deliver 20 megavolt-amperes of apparent power. Under standard conditions, it can supply a continuous load of around 16-18 MW, depending on the power factor. Our range extends up to 2500kVA for 20KV distribution.
What is the 80% rule for transformers?
The 80% rule recommends loading a transformer no more than 80% of its nameplate capacity for continuous loads, preventing excessive heating and extending insulation life. It is a widely followed best practice in industrial power system design.
